The Preliminary Examination, commonly known as Prelims, is the first stage of competitive exams like civil services. It serves as a screening test to shortlist candidates for the next level (Mains). This stage primarily evaluates a candidate’s basic understanding, clarity of concepts, and analytical ability.
The Prelims generally consist of objective-type questions (MCQs) covering subjects such as General Studies, Current Affairs, History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Environment, and Science. It requires not only knowledge but also speed and accuracy to perform well within a limited time.
